The Attributes of a Successful Massage Therapist

A successful massage therapist is not created overnight.  It takes a long process to be one.  One has yet to experience and take so many crucial steps in order for him or her to be really called “successful” in the real sense of the word.

The following are some of the attributes or qualities of a successful massage therapist which employers would like to have in their spa centers or massage clinics.

1)  They have a genuine passion for their job.  Passionate in a sense that you do not just work out of duty or compliance or because you need to.  This is to mean that you enjoy your work because you love to meet new people in your everyday existence.  You do not just enjoy meeting them or talking to them but more importantly meeting their needs.  They are optimistic and do not stop to learn something new.  They are open to change and to try something that would enhance their skills and knowledge about their job.  Being passionate contributes greatly towards rendering quality customer service beyond the customers’ expectations.

2)  They know how to listen.  This means that they do not just perform their duties mechanically.  What they need to do is open their sensitivity, their senses.  And then be able to communicate with their client through their touch.

3)  They are well-educated.  They must know their craft and use their knowledge as well as their skills in performing the massage.  They are customer-focused and flexible to handle untoward situations that may arise.  They possess polished professional attitude.

4)  They must act as team players.  They do not think only of themselves but as part of a big team.  They know exactly what to do and what to employ to a customer or client who is undecided about the type of body treatment they need.  They take the responsibility of delivering quality services that gives the clients the satisfaction they needed.

In summary, they must be able to apply the seven habits of highly effective massage therapists and these are: sensitivity, flexibility, positivity, humility, responsibility, maturity, connectivity.
